Lord Says 'A Weight Has Been Lifted'

LORD Hanningfield said last week that a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders by Mr Justice Eady's decision.

The peer said he was 'delighted' by the decision.

He said: “It's all worked out very well. I thought it had gone fairly well in court but I haven't had wonderful luck in the last few years so I wasn't sure.”

The peer said he hoped his victory would have a positive impact on police behaviour.

He said: “I think it will spark change and debate.”

However, he said the intense interest in him after last week's ruling had taken its toll.

He said: “I might take some of these issues forward in the House of Lords in the future, but I don't want to heap any more public attention on myself at the moment. I need a rest, quite honestly.”
